We won a prize! Ok full disclosure we won a prize a year ago. But like so many of our gardening adventures we moved to Melbourne shortly after and didn’t actually get to use any of it. We arrived back to the South Coast yesterday after a pretty harrowing drive through electrical storms and extremely low visibility. And today got straight into the gardening. After pruning the tomato plants (more on that later!) we got into looking at our prize.

Seeds to sow.

Seeds to sow.

We were pretty excited to go through all the seeds we had won. Although they’re not heirloom we’ll be planting them and trying to learn how to get better at raising seedlings into successful plants. We were worried it might be too late to get them started but they all seem to say it’s still ok to sow them. We’ll be starting them in a mix of egg cartons and newspaper pots so that we can plant them up without disturbing the roots and to cut back on plastic.

Another great part of the prize was all the Seasol and slow release plant foods. We were especially happy with the indoor plant food as ours are well overdue for a feed. Mostly though we are excited for the kart that it all came in. It’s going to make it so much easier for us to move compost and soil around the garden.

It might have been a year since we won the prize but actually getting to go through everything today and planning how we would use it all made it so exciting all over again!
